Visiting Easter Island (Boat-Based)

Anakena Walkabout (continued)

The story continues after four pages of pictures.

The dramatic and intense moai at Ahu Nau Nau.

We met a bunch of German tourists led by Hermann (with the red hat). I like these two pictures—the juxtaposition between mere mortals of flesh and blood and immortal icons of solid rock. The tourists visited the site for perhaps 30 minutes but the moai have been there for centuries—and will still be there thousands of years from now.

I like this picture, too; it's another good juxtaposition of impermanence vs. permanence—"here today gone tomorrow" vs. here today and for the next 20,000 years.
