Visiting Easter Island (Land-Based)

Topknot Quarry at Puna Pau (continued)

The story continues after this page of pictures.

Driving along the red clay back country road that leads to Puna Pau. You can see a few topknots in the distance.   A religious shrine just off the road in a grove of eucalyptus trees.

Maunga Tangaroa, from near the start of the road to Puna Pau. This is the hill that has three white crosses on top, although in this picture they are just a few pixels high. We could see the crosses from Nine of Cups when we were anchored off Hanga Roa.

I photographed this scene from near the topknot quarry. The flank of nearby Maunga Tangaroa rises at right, with Maunga Roiho in the background. By the way, maunga means "hill" or "mountain".
