Visiting Isla Santa Cruz in the Galápagos Archipelago

Las Grietas (continued)

The story continues after three pages of pictures.

The rim of the chasm. I took the remaining pictures while walking back to the harbor.   The chasm was at the top of a hill, and looking back we got a great view of the Santa Cruz landscape.

I think this is a flycatcher; it paid us a brief visit to see what we were doing.

I held the camera near ground level to highlight the jumble of pockmarked volcanic rocks that covered much of the terrain. If it wasn't for the vegetation, you'd swear it was the surface of the moon.   In a few places, very shallow algae-filled lagoons filled-in low points in the terrain.

Scenery on the way back.
