Visiting Isla Santa Cruz in the Galápagos Archipelago

Las Grietas (continued)

This is a large, possibly natural, salt pan, with the water stained red by algae.   The smaller rectangular salt pans were definitely man-made. Each pool of water is fringed by white salt crystals. In the heat of the day it was almost unbearably hot.

Another type of catus growing in front of a man-made wall.   A great blue heron in a shallow lagoon near the beach.

A close-up of mud cracks in a different lagoon.   The trail passed a small beach with a few mangrove trees.
