Visiting Isla Isabela in the Galápagos Archipelago

The Wall of Tears (continued)

This magnificent great blue heron patiently posed for close-up photographs.

On the way back to town we came across a sign for the Wall of Tears.   Puerto Villamil's cemetery was located on the outskirts of town.

More cemetery pictures.

It looks like all the boats in the anchorage are being swept away by a tidal wave, but this photo shows how important the fringing reef is. The harbor in the foreground is not protected by the reef, so it is swept by rough waves. Meanwhile, the small-boat anchorage in the background is protected by the reef, so it is unaffected by breaking waves (although it can get a little rolly from swell).
