Sailing to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean 1500

Visiting Road Town: Waterfront

Zuiderdam, a huge cruise ship operated by the Holland America Line, tucked alongside the cruise ship dock at Road Harbor. The 951-foot-long ship uses very modern diesel-electric azipod propulsion technology (see below for an interesting internet link).

The Queen Mary 2 at anchor in Road Harbor. The ship is 1,132 feet long and displaces more than 151,000 tons; it entered service in 2004. You can see a few tenders near the ship; these are small boats that transport passengers to and from shore. If you look carefully at the ship's waterline, just forward of midships you can see a small dark rectangle which is an opened hatch to permit easy boarding of the tenders. The vessel in the right foreground is Adventurer, a local ferry.

Another view of the Queen Mary 2, with a tender arriving at the Road Town ferry dock.

Tenders from the Norwegian Jewel, which is anchored in the harbor. The ship is operated by the Norwegian Cruise Line.
